“I cherish you as if I’d always known you. I’ll be relieve as if I’d never left you.” — Van Johnson

Jane Wyman is astonishing as a lonely woman brought to life by the unexpected attention of soldier Van Johnson in this tender soaper. Though it doesn’t have quite the charm of “The Clock” with Garland and Walker, there is something very sincere and ultimately absorbing about this bittersweet epic of falliing in like during wartime.

Ruthie (Wyman) lives in Unusual York where she takes care of her heartbroken mother, serene shell-shocked years after Ruthie’s father called one night to say he was leaving. It has not allowed the sweet Ruthie great of a life outside her job and mother. When she meets a soldier in an elevator named Art (Val Johnson), his warm and capable manner is unprejudiced the moral medicine for Ruthie, who’s never really been noticed.

Johnson really shines in a role tailor-made for his boyish charm. He is lonely too, and masks his need with constant chatter so that Ruthie can’t content him to go away. Art sort of invites himself to dinner and over the next two days they paint a relate of love’s transforming magic, which does not always acquire sizable amounts of time. It is a represent painted on a canvas of new grass in Central Park, boat races, and a city made for falling in appreciate.

When Art’s 153rd is slated to pull out, however, their happiness is interrupted. It is the minute touches, such as Ruthie’s pride in a memoir Art gets publised in the paper, and a truck stout of soldiers yelling goodbye to Ruthie when Art leaves that develop this film rise above its soap opera origins. Ben Hecht’s script, based on his have account, doesn’t damage either. A splendid and subtle bag by Franz Waxman adds honest the honest mood to this special film.

Writing Art every day until he can write her abet, a letter finally arrives for a lonely Ruthie, waiting for the instruct and words which will originate her heart live again. To mumble more would be unforgivable to anyone with a romantic heart who hasn’t seen this yet. I can only say that a scene in the rain is a poignant moment never forgotten by those who have seen it, either recently or years ago.

A expansive cast gives Johnson and Wyman the room they need for two lost souls to fetch each other. Those with a romantic heart will regain powerful to delight in with this film, finally available on DVD.

Wonderful classic toddle jerker. The movie is filmed in Recent York City in the 1940’s. Jane Wyman is a spinster who works for a exiguous shoe company. Her life consists of going to work and caring for her apprehensive mother. Her father left for another woman and the mother never got over it. One rainy day, she meets a soldier, played by Van Johnson. There first date is chaperoned by her best friend, Eileen Hackett. While walking around in the city, they are drawn to an auction. For some odd reason, Jane feels she must prefer an stale Roman coin. This coin, will be the miracle of the fable. After a few dates, they start to plunge in fancy and he is called off to war. Ladies, design positive you have tissues when watching this movie.

The last reviewer has no understanding what he is talking about. If you survey at his reviews they are all over the spot.

This anime is hilarious. If you want to scrutinize one of the best parodies of “tough guy” manga, this is it! Titanic characters, hilarious situations, frosty soundtrack. I can’t remember the last time I laughed so hard reading a manga. It’s fair unfamiliar and sometimes non-sequitor (Freddy mercury, gorilla, and mechazawa are really bizarre) . Check out the clip (I pick the subtitled version, but this dub is not abominable) and be prepared to laugh! If you dig the clip you should definitely check out the manga.

UNIQUE! My goodness, have I waited for a original anime to approach my draw for many years. And it’s finally here!

“Cromartie High School” is an anime that aired on television relieve in 2003 in Japan under the name “Sakikage! Cromartie High” and is based on a Kodansha Manga Award winning manga series by Eiji Nonaka.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Cromartie High School! Click Here

Basically, a gag manga serialized in the weekly Shounen Magazine, the manga series has won many fans for it’s over-the-top, bizarre humor and is planned to obtain its diagram into the U.S. on March 2nd, two weeks before the anime DVD release by ADV Films.

I had the opportunity to inspect four episodes (each episode is 12 minutes long) and I was unprejudiced amazed and awed by the account line because it’s bizarre, and I mean that in a obedient plot!

“Cromartie High School” is about a school which consists of the roughest, dumbest and bizarre students around.

Among these students is Takashi Kamiyama, who seems to be a student out of region in Cromartie High School.

A honors student through Junior High School, he was placed in Cromartie High School for some reason.

He adapts to the lifestyle of students around the school and writes about his adventures to his mother constantly but what makes him fit in at Cromartie High School that the other students scare about him is the unknown. Why is a normal person attending Cromartie High School?

The first episode introduces several of the key characters of Cromartie High (which includes the roughest students such as a student who likes to eat pencils, a student that most of the school can’t figure out that he’s a robot and a student who looks similar to Queen’s Freddie Mercury and is given the nickname Freddie) and how Takashi fits in with the crowd.

The second episode features Cromartie High School’s most recent but the student that Cromartie’s students ogle up to the most, Mechazawa.

A robot that students reflect is an unusual/special human being.

Takashi and friend Shinjirou Hayashida (who sports a purple mohawk) wonder if people will ever ask him if he’s a robot but it appears that no one has figured that out yet.

These are unprejudiced two examples of the zany yarn lines of “Cromartie High School” and they obtain even better and more bizarre in future episodes.

The animation is well done and switches to a manga style scrutinize to wintry anime style that I regain delicious.

The English suppose dubbing for the characters of “Cromartie High School” was exceptionally well done.

Cromartie High School is definitely a winner!

With it’s bizarre humor and unique characters, I can’t say enough that this is an anime that you should not miss! Also, a manga series that you should not miss.

So, if you want something different from what is out there, definitely give “Cromartie High School” a try.

The Asphalt Jungle is available for streaming or downloading.

Actually, I’ll give “The Asphalt Jungle” four and a half stars, as it stands as one of the colossal “films noir”, and another triumph for director, John Huston. This is a gritty, realistic portrait of the titanic city’s dim “underbelly”, circa 1950, and some of the shady characters who are trying to survive in this tough environment.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Asphalt Jungle! Click Here

Most of the people we meet in “Jungle” are crooks, with different skills–there is even the obligatory “cop on the hold”. A brainy crook named “Doc” ( Sam Jaffe, pleasant as usual ) has unprejudiced been released from jail, where he has clearly not been rehabilitated! He has planned a grand jewellery heist. Of course, he needs serve to pull it off. With the assistance of the local bookie, “Cobby” ( sweaty, nervous Marc Lawrence ), he recruits an expert safe-cracker, “Louis” ( desperate Anthony Caruso ), a getaway driver, “Gus” ( cool-under-fire James Whitmore ) and, for muscle, a bitter, tough-as-nails hood, “Dix” (an unshaven Splendid Hayden, never better ) . To bankroll the whole operation, our gang brings in a sleazy lawyer named Emmerich, played with smarmy elitism by Louis Calhern.

Of course, you know what can happen to “the best laid plans”. Unforeseen problems, accidents and the personal faults of the individuals fervent cause Doc’s “perfect view” to go off the rails. There is noteworthy more to the position, not to mention some spirited sub-plots, but I don’t like to spoil movies for first-time viewers, so I will not convey more of the story-line.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Asphalt Jungle! Click Here

I would like to mention a few other performances though that further contribute to a attractive film. Jean Hagen plays “Doll”, Dix’s long-suffering girlfriend, a very different role to her ditzy, petulant “star” in “Singin’ in the Rain”–what a versatile actress! John McIntire registers strongly as the Police Commissioner, a job obviously not for “nice guys”! Brad Dexter has a few memorable scenes as a private seek.

Finally, Emmerich’s mistress, “Angela”, is played by a young actress unbiased starting her career in movies–Marilyn Monroe. Her acting here may not be on a par with the other actors, but her glamour and charisma collected leap off the shroud.

The DVD exhibits a reasonable sunless and white relate, with some occasional wear–sound of course is mono. Extras include a trailer, a brief introduction by John Huston, optional comments by film scholar, Drew Casper, and even a few reminiscences by cast-member, James Whitmore ( his comments on Marilyn are exciting ) .

Bottom line–if you like classic, hard-boiled film noir, “The Asphalt Jungle” rates with the best. You are in for 112 minutes of appealing entertainment. Recommended.

A very black footnote, dated 16 February 2009–Mr. James Whitmore has passed away. This stunning actor had a long career in film, television and in the theatre, where he displayed a powerful talent in so many different roles.

When director John Huston was edged out of the production of The Killers, he was sure to beget a landmark film that would interpret and embody professional crimminality. Huston exceeded his expectations. The Asphalt Jungle is the seminal “caper film” which inspired a host of similar pictures. Huston assembled a honorable cast where each actor represented a character who possessed a special skill needed to complete a million dollar jewel heist. Sam Jaffe is Doc Reidenschneider-the mastermind, Anthony Caruso is Louie Ciavelli- the obedient cracker, Marc Lawrence is Coby- the bookmaker who finances the operation, Good Hayden is Dix Handley- the enforcer, James Whitmore is Gus- the wheelman, and Louis Calhern is Emmerich- the infamous attorney who acts as a fence. The characters, especially Doc, Louie, Dix, and Gus, are sketched with blatant realism. Each character is proud of their set and existence within the underworld. Their careers and reputations hinge on their acceptance by fellow professionals. Huston injects the virtues of trust, loyalty, and respect into their crimminal circle and simultaneously questions the code of honor among the rightousness. Emmerich sums up this dichotomy with a memorable line: “There’s nothing so different about them (crimminals) . Crime is only a left-handed create of human endeavor.” Morality, an philosophize in most noir films becomes blurred as Emmerich and a graft accepting detective become viewed as figures more contemptable than the crimminals fervent in the heist. Righteous Hayden as Dix delivers his most memorable performance. Dix is not unbiased another tough henchman, but a horrified loner trying to …”wash this city dirt off me”. Huston allows viewers unabashed insight into each of his characters. Doc with his predilection for nubile young girls, Gus’s conscious awareness of his physical deformity, Louie’s familial responsibilities, and Emmerich’s true disintegration add to the film’s realism. The Asphalt Jungle is one of the premier dim and white films ever made. John Huston’s creative energy is evident in every line and scene. Truely American film making at its best.

After watching all of the Lain DVDs I can confidently say that this series has soared to my #3 approved anime series of all time. Lain is basically a reveal of metaphores concerning the Internet, so if you don’t have a firm prefer over the concepts of computers and the Internet or “wired” (as the series terms it) world such as what hackers, chips, etc. are you may not luxuriate in it. The art is really different and pretty – every frame looks like a painting, with tantalizing utilize of colors and negative location. These episodes really need to be watched in order, so build clear you open with the first volume. The last episode literally had me crying! Lain’s world is totally spellbinding and not honest a shrimp bit creepy, and although you don’t rep all the answers at the demolish of this series, the last volume has a sufficiant wrap-up, leaving a jumping off point for the viewer’s imagination. I reccomend this to everyone who can stand a puny intelligence in their anime!

With with Layer:11 almost all clips from the previous ten layers, I was sort of wary of watching the rest of the DVD. But in tradition, Lain surprised me with two and half layers of capable anecdote telling. Like LAIN: DEUS, the tale is X-Files style but highly modern and creative. The animation here approach finish to the engaging marvel AKIRA in its most intense scenes. Watching the finale of LAIN would invent anyone want to peruse the entire series over again to beget in the gaps they experienced the first time they watched it. Highly recommended anime masterpiece! If you like The X-Files you are glide to like Lain: Navi, Knights, Deus, and Reset. Indulge In!

I had the opportunity to go to an come screening of this film and for those who may be skeptical about the quality of sequels to new arresting works, it is hoped that you will give this feature a try. Quality children’s programming is rare and this pains tries to affirm messages that focus upon the power of friendship and that proper strength and beauty comes from within. If you enjoyed the first film, the returning characters of Kenai and Koda are serene as titillating and the moose, Rutt and Tuke, effortlessly acquire every scene they are in. The modern character additions also add colossal levity to this current family treat!

In the past, Disney has always seemed to have a grand drop-off in yarn quality with their direct-to-dvd sequels. “Lion King 2″ is a prime example of this. However, Disney’s new DVD sequels such as “Return To Neverland,” “Tarzan 2,” and “Lion King 1 1/2,” have all been very well-behaved. Add “Brother Contain 2″ to that group.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Brother Bear 2! Click Here

Love is in the air in this sequel to the underrated “Brother Occupy.” Joaquin Phoenix’ role as Kenai has been gamely taken over by Patrick Dempsey. Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas reprise their roles of Rutt and Tuke, the moose brothers. Jeremy Suarez also returns as Koda and Michael Clarke Duncan makes a brief appearance as his character, Tug, from the current film. Joining the cast in original roles are Mandy Moore as Nita, Wendie Malick as Aunt Siqiniq and the hilarious Wanda Sykes as wise-cracking and wisdom-filled, Innoko.

Kenai and Koda have been together for a long time, and their brotherly adore is strong. However, when one of Kenai’s customary (and human) playmates attempts to marry, she finds out that she must waste an amulet that Kenai gave her a long time ago. The quandary is that she must burn it at the Equinox AND have Kenai accompany her. Granted the ability to hiss to animals in order to collect Kenai, Nita sets out on her quest. Once she finds Kenai, obsolete flames open to fan. Along the procedure, Rutt and Tuke choose a few notes in wooing the fairer sex (in this case, moosettes) from both Kenai and Nita. Koda begins to feel left out as Kenai and Nita become closer. In the destroy (and in typical Disney fashion), the fable closes with all parties being blissful. I won’t give away any more info than that.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Brother Bear 2! Click Here

As far as the production goes, “Brother Absorb 2″ appears to have received a lot more attention than most direct-to-dvd sequels. It has a strong musical collect and very apt songs performed by Melissa Etheridge, though she’ll surely be compared to Phil Collins’ performance in the first film. The animation is very first-rate as well.

The extras are stunning slim. There’s an Etheridge praise segment about her songs in the film and a few sneak peeks. There’s also a game that has Rutt and Tuke in it.

Overall, this is a very beneficial film with a astounding message of sacrifice and cherish for others. I highly recommend it and impart you that you’ll be proud to have it on your DVD shelf with the rest of your Disney collection.

Very exiguous is available in English on Italian Fascism, unlike the veritable flood of books, films, and memorabilia on Nazi Germany. This documentary attempts to suppose the history of Fascist Italy using color (or colorized) newsreels, unruffled photos, recent shots of historical locations, and reinactments under the narration. It makes this history more precise by interweaving the stories of a few representative people–who they were, what they did, how they shaped or reacted to events–into the larger historical account.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Italian Fascism in Color! Click Here

The first portion of the DVD concentrates on the rise of the Fascists. It shows how the fascist movement arose from the turmoil and disillusion in Italy following World War I. Interestingly, in this fraction of the film Mussolini is mentioned relatively infrequently. Instead, the documentary concentrates on local or regional fascist “bosses” in the cities, and especially on conditions and events in rural areas, where the fascists battle both socialists/communists as well as Catholic organizations. Among other things, it dramatizes the fascist siege of Parma, in which the fascists were defeated by the armed and organized socialists. As the film makes certain, the fascists and their sympathizers were never in the majority in post-war Italy, and their rise to power was not inevitable. It was only because of the collusion of established heirachies–the King of Italy, the Vatican–that the fascist were able to recall control. I found this share to be very well done and quite enthralling.

Unfortunately, the second piece of the DVD, Mussolini in Power, was not nearly as well done as the first. Whereas the portion on the rise to power convered a period of perhaps five years, the share on the fascists in power covered some twenty years in the same amount of time. Instead of being a history of Italy, it becomes the account of Mussolini (these were not the same thing) ; and even as the fable of Mussolini it is rushed and supperficial, recounting only the main events of his rule. For the most section, we come by petite opinion of what it was like to live in Italy under the fascists, how the fascists operated once in power, or how they changed Italian society. The documentary calm supplements history by focusing on a few individuals, except in this case the individuals are Mussolini and his son-in-law Count Ciano (though, to be glowing, it also does complete the myth of one of the characters from the first piece) . Count Ciano was chosen not only because his diaries provide an insiders anecdote of Mussolini but also because of the natural drama of the yarn of Mussolini’s relationship with his son-in-law (in the demolish, Mussolini had him executed at the insistance of the Germans) . But by focusing so tightly on these two men (or three, if you include Hitler), the documentary fails to provide the larger relate and historical background. For example, it covers the Italian invasion of Ethiopia in unprejudiced a few minutes, neglecting any discussion of prior Italian colonization in the space, and failing to mention that in 1896 the Italians became the only European nation militarily defeated by the “third world” peoples they were attempting to colonize (the Ethiopians, at the Battle of Adowa) . Even in its coverage of Italy in World War II there are many though-provoking stories that the documentary could have included but does not. For example, in the first fragment on the fascist rise to power, we behold Italo Balbo commanding the losing fascist troups at the battle for Parma. I was very mighty looking forward to how the documentary would deal with Balbo’s role in the fascist plot, and especially the interrogate of whether on not Mussolini had him assassinated. However, Balbo is not even mentioned in the second share.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Italian Fascism in Color! Click Here

Since this is one of the few documentaries in English that deals with Fascist Italy I abominate to not recommend it. The first portion on the rise to power is very well done and worth watching. As for the second part, you would probably learn as grand or more from some of the American TV dramas which were made about Mussolini (in one, he was played by George C. Scott; I believe there are two in which he was played by Rod Steiger) . The actual value of the second share is that it shows footage of acutal people and historic events, and as such is a supplement to a history of the period such as Bosworth’s “Mussolini’s Italy”.

I found this documentary to be a graceful overview of the history of Italian fascism, and the rise and drop of Benito Mussolini. Although I don’t ordinarily favor colorization, this series of films (including World War One in Color, Russian Revolution in Color, etc.) has done a careful job of it, in terms of accuracy. The execute is striking.

I have fond memories of watching Parker Lewis Can’t Lose with my family on Sunday evenings on Fox wait on in 1990 when it first aired, and we all enjoyed it. Where I lived in San Francisco it was on at 7:30 lawful before The Simpsons and lasted for three seasons.

It may be nearly 20 years after the fact, but even now it holds up as a high-quality note of unfamiliar intelligence and humor, and is important for being one of the Fox Network’s early hits. Besides inventive storylines and a light, silly touch, Parker and his buds are memorable characters, and the casting is pitch-perfect. The editing and camera movements are creative, enhancing the whimsical and quirky nature of the point to.

And I, for one, enjoy the fact that this display is somewhat of a time capsule of early-90s clothing and styles. I was in high school when this note was on, and it reminds me of those days more than a dinky bit.

The 26 Season One episodes are hands-down the best in my idea, and hopefully this place will sell like hotcakes thus necessitating a Season Two release. The abbreviated Season Three (only 22 episodes) is a different epic, however. It is famous in tv history as being a classic “shark-jumper”–at the behest of the producer, it changed its name to “Parker Lewis” (losing the “Can’t Lose” moniker) and became more of a vanilla after-school-special type program no longer resembling the irreverent present of the first two seasons.

Here are the 26 Season One episodes in broadcast order:

2. Operation Kubiak (9/9/90)

3. Power Play (9/16/90)

4. Parker Lewis Must Lose (9/23/90)

15. Heather the Class (1/13/91)

16. Jerry: Portrait of a Video Junkie (2/3/91)

17. Splendor in the Class (2/10/91)

18. The Human Grace (2/17/91)

19. Citizen Kube (2/24/91)

20. Randall Without a Cause (3/10/91)

21. Jerry’s First Date (3/24/91)

22. Against the Norm (4/7/91)

24. Teens from a Mall (5/5/91)

25. My Radiant Shelly (5/12/91)

26. Parker Lewis Can’t Pick Up (5/19/91)

At long last, Parker Lewis is finally coming to DVD! This truly is one of the best shows ever broadcast on TV and it’s one of the mysteries (and injustices) of the universe that Bid from Saved by the Bell gets a DVD release but quality like Parker Lewis (and Midnight Caller) have to endure fan petitions to net a well-deserved DVD release. Now let’s hold the pressure on for seasons 2 and 3 to be on DVD!

Chris Rock is not honest a comedian. He doesn’t unbiased direct jokes (anymore) . He’s a truly bright guy that sees the world for what it is…and then shares his plan of it with you. And the world is clearly a very very comic area.

Political views. Racial views. Religious views. Social views. His views on tiring, used celebrated sense….Whether you agree with his views or not, he’ll earn you laugh. He might even originate you aroused with some of his views…but that’s the point. Oh, you mean the stuff you agree with is silly, but the stuff that you don’t agree with isn’t??? C’mon!

Rock’s 2008 HBO special Slay the Messenger is Chris Rock at his best. Some of the act does seem familiar unprejudiced because (most of us? ) now know his routine so well after so many beautiful years. You have his previous HBO specials: from “Broad *** Jokes” 14 years ago when he primitive to simply “state jokes”, to his breakthrough specials starting in 1996 that established Rock for the fresh style and delivery that he is now eminent for {Bring The Injure (1996), Bigger and Blacker (1999), and Never Timid (2004) }. And of course you also have years and years of TV and movies to go with his signature HBO persona.

So, while some of the act may seem a bit familiar, rest assured that the subject matter is unusual. The only annoyance (albeit a miniature annoyance) with the Destroy the Messenger performance is the 3-venue video splicing presentation. In other words, you’ll inspect Rock launch a joke in Unusual York, but then effect it in London or South Africa (not necessarily in that order) ; this splicing accomplish was distracting for me, but may not bother you.

So do go ahead and hit the remove button for a night of laughs if you didn’t have the trustworthy fortune to accumulate this on HBO. One other word of caution is that the material is very timely. When the DVD is finally released in early 2009, some of it will actually be dated…mostly the pre-election stuff.

There are defintley some laugh out loud moments in Chris’ 4th dvd, but this one is my least approved of his catalog. There’s some un-funny material, surprisingly unfunny given his track characterize. Maybe he’s crossing that line in life where he objective doesn’t have any stout unique material. Having said that though, it’s worth watching, fair not buying like I did.

For some reason The Sound Of Music has never had any luck in home video release. It has never achieved the portray quality commensurate with its residence. The 40th Anniversary Edition seemed like the opportunity for it to finally shine. Alas no. Yes it is a marked improvement over the previous DVD which image-wise was imperfect. But it is far below what we know is possible in film restoration today.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Sound of Music! Click Here

What’s edifying about the original SoM transfer? Well for starters they’ve removed the noteworthy criticised electronic edge enhancement which infuriated so many people in the previous DVD. This is artificial sharpening which looks favorable on little screens but produces halos around objects when seen on larger displays. The result is a slightly softer image but definitely an improvement over the veteran DVD. And they’ve made some distress at restoration. The record looks visibly brighter. The color timing which was procedure off in the previous DVD has been partially corrected – but not totally. Skin tones which looked overly red previously, now appear closer to normal. However this color correction is haphazard. Some scenes have skin tones looking very natural, others smooth have that ruddy, sun-burnt explore. The night scenes especially have skin tones taking on an horrid muddy-red appearance. In short, the color timing for the unique DVD is inconsistent. Ironically, one drawback of the demonstrate color-correction is an overly-accurate representation of the unique colors in some scenes – in the Edelweiss reprise at the Salzburg Folk Festival, Angela Cartwright’s face (Brigitta) takes on a faint greenish-yellow hue under the stagelight. In the previous DVD this had been corrected to give everyone a uniform pink glow but not in the reveal DVD. It may be a truer reflection of stagelighting but it is not at all handsome to gaze at. So in terms of color-correction, in trying to please everyone, the technicians ended up heavenly no one. Gloomy levels however are dwelling on. Level of detail is also fairly superb, especially shadow detail in the darker scenes, definitely better than in the previous DVD but again below what we’ve arrive to seek information from of DVD transfers on the cusp of the Hi-Def era. This is especially so considering that SoM was shot, not on 35mm film like other movies, but on 70mm which should, if properly handled, enable us to search for detail that would eclipse the very latest Hollywood productions, almost all of which are shot in 35mm today. Sadly it does not.

Sound-wise, the THX Certified 4.1 Surround Sound of the previous DVD has been replaced by a 5.0 Surround. Ticket the loss of the .1 LFE (subwoofer) . This won’t perform worthy disagreement as SoM does not do great expend of the LFE channel but those using less expensive sound systems may waste up losing the lower-most frequencies as the front speakers of these systems often cannot reproduce the lowest frequencies that will now be passed on to them. One also wonders why they did not spend all 6 channels of the recent Todd-AO soundtrack for this DVD. To accept out in the Extras that they actually remixed the recent 6 track audio into a novel DTS soundtrack which we are not given here is only to add insult to injury. Apparently Fox is reserving the DTS soundtrack for its upcoming High-Definition version of SoM due out next year.

The selling point of this 40th Anniversary Edition must be the Extras of which there are tonnes. What I bask in most in the original area of Rodgers & Hammerstein Anniversary releases is the inclusion of a separate songs-only chapter list. I hope this becomes a feature for all future musicals. An spirited curiosity in this DVD is the ability to hear and vow along with the film in both French and Spanish with the appropriate lyrics appearing beneath distinguished like in a karaoke-singalong. Although the French soundtrack was already exhibit previously, this is the first time I’ve heard the songs sung in Spanish. There are hours of documentaries. I especially liked Charmian Carr’s recent documentary “On Place with The Sound of Music,” and the children’s reunion, “From Liesl to Gretl: A 40th Anniversary Reunion,” where the now grown-up children reminisce about their time on the dwelling and point out all the diminutive bloopers they made onscreen. It’s heartening to learn that they’ve all turned out very well indeed. Unfortunately with all the recent Extras, some of the features from the previous DVD had to be dumped. By far the saddest loss was the exclusion of Charmian Carr’s toothsome 1967 documentary “Salzburg Contemplate and Sound”.

The Sound Of Music underwent a complete restoration in 2002 for its inclusion in the Academy Film Archive (A.M.P.A.S.) . That 65mm restored print was first exhibited in early 2003. From the Film-to-Video restoration comparison included among the Extras, it would seem that this is the restoration dilapidated in the DVD. However it also shows how great more muted the colors on the film elements were even after restoration. It is only after the video transfer and color correction that the colors approach to resemble what is seen here. The telecine color-timer was obviously over-enthusiastic with the color correction, pumping the colors up beyond what is natural.

For those contemplating getting the 40th Anniversary Edition, do brand that Fox has announced that The Sound Of Music will be re-released next year on its unusual Blu-Ray High-Definition DVD. That’s where the unique restoration will re-emerge, hopefully with a more proper telecine transfer and the newly remixed DTS soundtrack. If you can, it may be wiser to wait for the next incarnation of this beloved classic and hope that Fox finally gets things upright.

Reviled by some, beloved by many, consistently referred to as the most favorite movie musical ever made, THE SOUND OF MUSIC more than fulfills the promise of its attractive visuals and expert song numbers on home video via DVD. This edition tops the 1995 laserdisc by allowing the graceful, exemplary gain of its 70mm. Todd-AO frame to be exhibited with increased sharpness and resolution. The 4.1 Dolby Digital soundtrack is mighty and shipshape, but since this film was originally mixed for six-track magnetic stereo, it’s lively why the worry wasn’t made by Fox to split the surrounds! Nonethless, the film sounds terrific. The extra features gain this package a bargain at the brand. Plump length commentary by director Bob Wise, with the musical numbers presented sans vocals, is a colossal touch. And the two documentaries are beautifully presented; burly of facts and bits of arcane information that any fan will truly bask in. A enormous movie, and a large DVD rendition. So here’s the long awaited “Beautiful In Pink”, finally on DVD! I really don’t contemplate I need to review the philosophize of the movie- if you are reading this you have probably seen it! I’m thrilled that Paramount has finally build this out on DVD. But… and there is a Mountainous “but”….

There are no extra goodies on this DVD. The new ending (Molly Ringwald ends up with Duckie) is not here. (Check it out: Andrew McCarthy looks COMPLETELY different in the last seen. His hair is longer, his skin is whiter, and he looks about 10 years older, even though the ending was filmed only several months after the principle shooting ended!) That is a total missed opportunity that legions of Molly Ringwald/Brat Pack/John Hughes/80’s teen flick fans have been waiting to view for years! There’s not even a theatrical trailer on this DVD! I can understand that deleted scenes, a theatrical trailer- these things can gain lost in the vaults over the years. But you simply cannot whine me that they couldn’t dig up the video for OMD’s “If You Leave” to place on here!

Some commentary would have been tall as well! There are all sorts of things that the director could have discussed: OMD originally did a song for “Glorious In Pink” called “Goddess Of Fancy”. When the ending of the movie changed, they recorded a unusual song (”If You Leave”) … “Goddess Of Adore” ended up going on their “Pacific Age” album. More trivia: Molly’s well-liked group at the time, The Rave-Up’s, compose in the movie. (Their song wasn’t on the soundtrack.) Molly carries a notebook in “Sixteen Candles” that has “The Rave-Up’s” handwritten across it.

Watch out for an early performance by Gina Gershon! She barely has any lines- I mediate she’s in about two scenes. You won’t miss those lips of hers. Also spy for Dweezil Zappa (as “Simon”) . Annie Potts practically steals the reveal in this pre-”Designing Women” performance. Not to be missed!

All in all… this is a sizable DVD. It’s nice to inspect it letterboxed. Paramount objective missed a sizable opportunity by not going the extra mile by putting out something special for such a beloved 80’s movie.

I appreciate this movie. I bought the first release of the DVD without a single feature on it, fair so I could witness it over and over. It was the first DVD I bought when I got my player.

I almost fell over with joy when I saw the “Everything’s Duckie” edition at Best Rob yesterday. I could barely gain my excitement. FINALLY, I would score to recognize the ending that John Hughes intended- where Andie (Molly Ringwald) ends up with sweet, lovable Duckie (Jon Cryer) instead of smarmy, sappy richie “major appliance” Blane (Andrew McCarthy) .

THE Novel ENDING IS NOT ON THIS DVD. That is a total rip-off. It says in dreary English, on the list of features “Modern Ending”. Instead of showing it, they talk about it and why it didn’t work.

It sounds like the actual reason they changed the ending was that Molly Ringwald had the hots for Andrew McCarthy. And if the test audience booed, then they certain as hell didn’t expose it to a group of high school outcasts.

When the scene wasn’t in the special feature, I even went so far as to see the waste of the movie thinking maybe they had actually do it in the feature. But no. For the one hundreth time, I had to peer Duckie perform eyes at a rich girl with mountainous boobs (Kristy Swanson, pre-Buffy the Vampire Slayer), and Andie perform out with Sap-face in the parking lot.

Dang.

The other features are sparkling chilly. There are a lot of interviews and stuff. But you can’t call it the “Duckie Edition” if she doesn’t demolish up with Duckie. Period.
